I would note that 8 ram is much better than 4 ram. If you are upgrading at time of purchase try to get as much ram as you can at the beginning... also set up your virus protection and possibly purchase a speech recognition program such as Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Newer Windows programs such as VISTA come with a built in speech recognition program. Take your time to tune it to your voice. You can up your typing to 185 words per minute or more - accurately.
